Since I am a sunscreen hoarder and I religiously wear sunscreen daily, it’s one of the beauty essentials on my dresser with the fastest turnover. And since I went on several beach trips this summer and I also force my parents and my boyfriend to use sunscreen, it’s so easy for me to use up my stash. After I finished this sunscreen, I switched to this new sunscreen from Daylong, Cetaphil’s sun care brand.
Why I’m giving this a try
The makers of well-known skincare brand Cetaphil launched Daylong to provide clinically-proven protection against the sun, all the way to the cellular and DNA level. With a state-of-the-art formula that has a uniquely light texture and smooth finish, this Swiss brand wishes to provide us daily, deep, and complete solar defense.
Before I talk about my favorite Daylong product, let me call attention to that part of the paragraph above that probably made you read it twice: protection against the sun, all the way to the cellular and DNA level. You see, UVB rays are not just responsible for sunburn, they also cause DNA damage that can lead to mutation. Meanwhile, UVA rays generate oxidative reactions affecting DNA, proteins, and lipids, and even our immune system. And besides UVA and UVB, we also have to worry about infrared (IR) radiation that causes skin and tissue aging. Beyond sunburn and pigmentation, UV and IR radiation cause deeper cellular damage beyond the skin’s surface, which is why it’s important to wear sunscreen that has a deeper, more fundamental, and complete protection.

Daylong has several products, including Daylong Face and Body Light Gel SPF 50 PA++++ and Daylong Face and Body Liposomal Spray SPF 30 PA+++ that are both for sun-sensitive skin, Daylong Kids Face and Body Liposomal Lotion SPF 50 PA++++ and Daylong Kids Face and Body Cream SPF 30 PA+++ that are both for children’s sensitive skin, and Daylong After Sun Repair Face and Body Liposomal Lotion for sun-stressed skin.
Why I like Daylong Face and Body Spray
My favorite (and the one I’m currently using both in the city and when I go on beach trips) is the Daylong Face and Body Liposomal Spray SPF 30 PA+++, which provides high UVB/UVA and IR protection for sensitive skin like mine. I like its spray formulation because it’s easy to apply and evenly spread all over skin, yet it’s very water resistant, so I’m protected even when I take a dip in the sea.

But what I really like about it is how it gets absorbed quickly and it’s non-greasy/non-sticky so I am not hesitant to wear it even on days when I do yoga. You see, I need a firm grip when I do yoga poses, especially those that involve holding one foot up with my hands as I balance on the other leg, so I avoid wearing lotion and greasy sunscreen before class. When I use sunscreen with thick or oily formulation, it makes my grip slippery, making me unable to do poses properly, so I sometimes even skip wearing sunscreen altogether (eek!) when I’m doing yoga that day. But with the Daylong Liposopmal Spray, I feel protected, my skin feels soft and moisturized (thanks to its aloe vera and Vitamin E content), and yet it doesn’t make my grip greasy. It actually feels great on skin.

Sunscreen tips
I make sure to apply Daylong Face and Body Spray generously all over my face, neck, and body approximately 20 minutes before sun exposure. I spray it generously on my hands (to massage on my face and neck) and all over my body and allow it to absorb into the skin. I reapply after swimming, drying off, sweating, and taking a shower.
Want to get tan? Remember that while both tanned and fair skin are both sexy, sun damaged skin is not. So even if you want to bake in the sun, remember just how bad it is for your skin. I won’t be the one to stop you from basking in the sun on beach trips, sun-lover that I am, but avoid the intensive midday sun and just don’t overdo sun exposure. Even sunscreen with a high SPF does not provide full protection against UV rays, so do not stay too long in the sun, even while using a sunscreen product.
Want to remain fair? Then sunscreen is your best friend. Never step out without wearing sunscreen to prevent further skin darkening. In fact, you should always wear sunscreen to protect your skin that becomes extra sensitive when you’re using whitening products. Keep a bottle in your handbag at all times for reapplication.
And with summer drawing to a close, it’s very timely to note Daylong’s advocacy toward everyday sun protection called Sunscreen and the City. Staying true to its commitment to care for the skin, whether the sun is out or not, Daylong conducted a study to reveal that sun exposure in the city has the same intensity as on the beach. Using sun sensors that can detect UV radiation, Daylong has shown that the UV radiation in the city of Manila reaches the same level as on the beaches of Boracay.

Lifestyle show writer and host Marie Lozano is one of the women Daylong tapped for the Sunscreen and the City campaign.
“The concept of the study was to support our advocacy for daily sunscreen wear. Daylong is new in the game, but this is how we want to make an impact—by undertaking a responsibility to provide daily sun care and protection that works even on a cellular level,” explains Daylong Brand Manager Jon Lee.
Daylong worked with influential urbanites, whose schedules are immersed in city-living lifestyles, and produced a video that shows how even if we’re always on the go, fulfilling duties simultaneously at home and at work or school, we should always remain protected from the sun.
