To all fans worried about not having enough time to watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens because of MMFF, we can relax now. Oh, and here’s a new trailer to celebrate.
I groaned inwardly, like I’m sure a lot of you did, when I saw the original release date of the new Star Wars film: December 18, 2015. With MMFF coming up on Dec. 25, we only have a few days to try to get ahead of everybody in watching the latest installment in the practically worshipped franchise.
Maybe the distributors realized this, so we’re given one more day: Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, director J.J. Abrams’ seventh installment in the beloved franchise, will open across the Philippines on Dec. 17, Thursday—one day ahead of most territories in the “galaxy,” including the US, where the film will still debut on Dec. 18. This was announced today by a spokesman of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the film’s distributor. Here’s the poster accompanying this announcement:
Here’s to hoping—crossing fingers on both hands really tight—that some cinemas will still show the movie even while MMFF is ongoing (PLEASE!), or if not (God forbid), at least bring it back to cinemas after the MMFF (sigh).
In the meantime, let’s celebrate by watching the newly released final trailer of Star Wars: The Force Awakens below.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan & Abrams, and features a cast that includes actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis,Academy Award-winner Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Andersen, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow. They will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.
The film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk. John Williams returns as the composer. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is Episode VII in the Star Wars Saga.
