The moment I saw ads about the new KFC Double Down Dog that’s available only for a limited time, I knew I had to try it. It just looked so good in the photo! That, and of course it combines the two things I love: KFC’s Original Recipe chicken (in fillet form, of course, used as the bun) and hotdog! I didn’t even read the entire ad; I. Must. Have. It. Stat.

So when I had the chance to visit KFC this weekend, I ordered the value meal (P129), which includes a regular drink and your choice of Fixin’ or side dish (I got mashed potatoes). You can get it a la carte, too, for P95. My first impression when I saw it was, Hmm, parang ang liit! It’s smaller than it looks in the photo! But a few minutes later, after I’ve wolfed it down—I won’t beat around the bush: Yes, it’s that good—I realized it was actually filling. I still wish it was bigger, but if you don’t have such a huge appetite, this should be good for lunch or dinner. It can be a heavy snack, too.
The pleasant surprise? They actually used Purefoods Tender Juicy Chick ’n Cheese Hotdog, not just a regular hotdog. It made me so happy to see cheese oozing from the hotdog after my first bite because I love cheesedogs! I’m officially declaring Double Down Dog among my favorite comfort food. It’s every meat- or hotdog-lover’s dream. Walang tapon, that’s for sure!
I generally love hotdogs, but sometimes I avoid eating the bun, or even when I do, I don’t finish it once I’ve scarfed down the hotdog. In this case, once I was done eating the cheesedog (I finished it first, as usual), I was still able to enjoy what’s left of the chicken fillet, dipping it in KFC’s yummy gravy. This is great for those like me who try to avoid rice and bread (but don’t judge me for still having mashed potatoes–the spud is my favorite carb).
I like how I got that savory Original Recipe goodness in every bite, paired with the cheesedog that’s garnished with sweet-sour honey mustard. You can even enjoy them separately, if you wish—the cheesedog first, then the chicken fillet. Or vice versa. Either way, you get the meatiness and taste you are craving. And I shall enjoy it as often as I can while it is still available.

I’ve been warned. So I did. And I have no regrets.
