Whenever my boyfriend and I do an Airbnb staycation in Gramercy Residences, we always make it a point to have breakfast at least once in nearby Crepe Amelie, located at A. Venue Mall in Makati. The cafe is so warm and cozy, and their crepes delicious!

I remember a time when I was crazy about crepes and even had a few favorite crepe joints, and I would make it a point to sample any new crepe spots that popped up. Just when I thought I’m all creped out (see what I did there? Haha!), here comes Crepe Amelie reviving my love for this paper-thin and fluffy pancake wrapped around everything delightful, from tender pieces of meat and savory garlic and cheese to sweet caramel sauce and cinnamon dusted sweetened apples.

If the crepe joint’s name sounds familiar, that’s because it’s inspired by the French film Amelie, which reportedly happens to be the title of the favorite movie (and the name of the favorite heroine) of the wife of Crepe Amelie’s owner.

The brightly-lit cafe with floor-to-ceiling paned windows does evoke a French cafe vibe. Whether you’re indoors or at the al fresco dining area, you can enjoy the sunlight streaming in beautifully in the morning, and bask in the warm glow from lamps hanging from the ceiling and ambient lighting at night. It’s definitely a great place to start your day and to unwind after a long day at work.

The menu features not just sweet and savory crepes, but also filling sandwiches, omelettes, pastas, salads, milk shakes, coffee drinks, unique juices, and luxuriously delicious mille crepe cakes! Crepe Amelie also boasts of unique mille crepe cakes that are great for parties and special occasions—something different! They’re made of layered, soft, practically paper-thin crepes held together perfectly by cream with bits of filling, depending on the flavor you get. They’re available in slices and whole cake. Cucumber Apple Mint, P120

I washed all this food down with this drink that has the even taste of cucumber, apple, and mint, if that makes sense. There’s no overpowering flavor, except perhaps mint is not as strong as you would expect it to be. The juice is really refreshing, with just the right amount of syrup as well as a slight acidity from the apple.
Crepe Amelie is located at A. Venue Mall, Makati Avenue.
