Do you often suffer from sore throat? I do! I constantly suffer from sore throat for a variety of reasons: pollution in Metro Manila, exposure to second-hand smoke and dust, eating too much salty food, and something as basic as singing at the top of my lungs whenever I’m in the car with my fiance, listening to our Spotify playlists.

We take it for granted (except when the discomfort gets too unbearable), but just imagine how horrifying it is for people who use their voice for a living—call center agents, teachers, motivational speakers, event and TV hosts, and yes, our favorite singers!
According to Dr. Clarissa Fortuna, a laryngologist who specializes in treating the voice box (regularly visited by singers, hosts, and call center agents), sore throat generally refers to any discomfort in the throat, especially when something gets stuck in it. It’s normally caused by viruses or bacteria. That’s why sometimes, beyond just irritation or itchiness, you feel pain in swallowing and swelling. Another usual cause of sore throat is allergies to food (like chocolates, nuts, and cheese), which make the throat and pharynx swell, especially when one doesn’t drink after eating.

Several other things can cause sore throat: changes in temperature and weather, outdoor pollution, allergens in the air, smoking cigarettes, and second-hand smoke. Excessive and forceful usage of your voice can also cause muscle strain (no wonder!).
Good thing there are several remedies for sore throat, like gargle solutions, mentholated lozenges, and throat sprays. It’s their ingredients that are important for efficacy.
One effective medication that even singer-actress-host Sarah Geronimo herself swears by is Kamillosan M Spray, a clinically proven all-natural sore throat spray solution. It contains eight active ingredients that effectively soothe and relieve sore throat.
These eight ingredients—Chamomile extract, Methyl salicylate, Peppermint oil, Sage oil, Anise oil, dwarf pine needle oil, Bergamot oil, and Cineol—work together in fighting and treating sore throat. Its main ingredient, soothing Chamomile, acts as an anti-inflammatory agent to reduce pain, swelling, and redness. And add to that the anti-bacterial effects of essential oils such as Peppermint, Sage, and Bergamot, Kamillosan M is highly suited for sore throat relief.
The natural ingredients also lend to its minty fresh sweet aftertaste, unlike other medicinal throat sprays in the market today. It can be used as a breath freshener to fight bad breath, while its anti-bacterial/anti-microbial effects from the interaction of ingredients also make it great for the treatment of mouth sores.

Just spray twice as close as possible inside your mouth, three times a day (after meals) to get the full benefit. Direct it to the back of your throat or corners of your mouth (especially when treating mouth sores). There’s no toxicity from using it too much. The bottle is so handy, it fits right in your purse or pocket.
Kamillosan M is now available over the counter (it used to be a prescription drug, but it’s now OTC) in all leading drugstores nationwide at P428 SRP. A 15mL bottle of Kamillosan is good for 104 sprays.
Kamillosan M Spray is from A. Menarini Philippines, which belongs to one of the largest Italian biopharmaecutical groups, Menarini. To know more about Kamillosan and its advocacy, Speak Up, visit www.kamillosan.ph.
