Here are more ways you can use your essential oils at home, at the gym, and whenever you travel.

I only recently started mixing essential oils, as I mentioned in this blog post and here, and I just can’t get enough of them. I have essential oil blends for different purposes now: as insect repellent, sleep aid, anti-stress, anti-itch, muscle relief, clearing nasal passages, and even skincare.

But I wanted to know more ways to use them, so I’m posting more essential oil recipes you may also find useful—bookmark this page for easy reference!

Natural deodorizer:
For the body: Add 1 drop of patchouli oil to your favorite lotion and apply daily.
Overall mist: Mix 1 to 2 drops of lemongrass oil and 1 drop of lavender or peppermint oil in water and use as mist.

Cleaning spray:
Recipe 1: Combine eucalyptus, lemon, and peppermint oils in an atomizer for an effective cleaning and cooling spray.
Recipe 2: Mix tea tree oil with water, vinegar, and lemon essential oil then use on countertops, kitchen appliances, shower, toilet, and sinks.

Muscle and joint pain relief:
Recipe 1: Mix 2 drops of rosemary oil, 2 drops of peppermint oil, and 1tsp of mineral oil, then rub on sore muscles and painful joints. This is especially great after an intense gym workout.
Recipe 2: Add 2 drops of lavender oil and 2 drops of rosemary oil to 4tsp of massage oil base (or any plain base/carrier oil) and use in a gentle body massage.

Headache remedy:
Mix 2 drops of lavender oil with peppermint oil and rub the mixture into the back of the neck and temples to help relieve headache.

For relieving head and neck tension:
Massage 2 drops of undiluted lavender oil into the temples and the base of the skull.

For treating occasional skin irritations:
Apply 1-2 drops of tea tree oil to affected area.

Stress reducer and sleep aid:
For daytime use: Add lemongrass oil to your body lotion.
For nighttime use: Add lavender oil to your favorite body lotion.

Pre-workout rub:
Blend 2 drops of rosemary oil, 1 drop of lavender oil, and 1 drop of eucalyptus oil with 4tsp of massage oil base (or any plain base/carrier oil), then stir gently to mix. Apply this to your body prior to exercise.

Post-workout rub:
Blend 2 drops of lavender oil and 1 drop of eucalyptus oil with 4tsp of massage oil base (or any plain base/carrier oil), then stir gently to mix. Apply this to your body after exercising.

For a quick and easy look, here are the past recipes I’ve posted:

Anti-itch recipe:
Mix 3 drops of peppermint oil with 3 drops of lavender oil to cool and soothe the itch.

For treating respiratory problems:
Mix eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil, and mineral oil, then apply to your upper chest to assist with clear breathing.

For treating warts:
Put tea tree oil directly on the area once or twice daily, for 30 days.

To help improve memory:
Mix 3 drops of rosemary oil with 1/2tsp of mineral oil, and rub it on your upper neck.

For minimizing scars:
Rub 2-3 drops of patchouli oil into your hands and then apply it on scar daily, until you see the mark disappear.

Anti-cellulite cream:
Mix 30 drops of grapefruit essential oil into 1 cup of mineral oil. Store in glass container. Rub into areas with cellulite for 5min daily.

Natural bug repellant:
Add 5 drops of lemongrass oil to water and create your own spray. Spray on your pet’s coat.

Here’s a handy guide in case you want to experiment (like I have been doing):

Burners: 1-2 drops* of oil with 4-5 drops of water
Atomizer: 2 drops* of oil for every 100ml water
Air Purifier: 10 drops* for every 1L
Lotion: 5 drops* of oil for every 250ml lotion
Direct to skin: Dilute with 4-5 drops of carrier oil per 1 drop* of essential oil

*Drops may vary from oil to oil.
