Phones have long ceased to be just for calls and texts. Now we use them to interact and connect in richer ways through social media and various forms of chats. We use them to play music and games, take and view photos, watch videos, send emails, and do research and other work. Whether we like it or not, we now have a digital lifestyle, and since we can’t beat it, we might as well embrace it and let mobile connectivity enhance our lives.
Case in point: Two months ago, I was lamenting the loss of my iPhone 5 that served as my trusted companion through trips, work, and all moments of my last couple of years. However, now, thanks to Globe, I can finally move on, as I made a decision to get myself a Globe post-paid plan with the iPhone 6.
My beloved new iPhone 6
So when I was in the Bonifacio Global City area one day, I went to visit the Globe Store in The Globe Tower, right above Niner Ichi Nana (there’s an entrance behind the bar, actually). I’m glad this is the branch I visited because the interiors are so cozy and the service efficient.
This photo of the Globe Store at The Globe Tower in BGC was taken using my new iPhone 6!
Incidentally, with the intention to customize the post-paid plan experience to suit our digital lifestyles, Globe launched the new myLifestyle Plan, which gives customers access to an easier and simplified plan offer starting at P499 a month. It comes with built-in unlimited calls and texts to Globe and TM (so you no longer have to think about how many calls and texts you need) plus freebies such as the Navigation Bundle, which gives you all-day, all-month access to apps such as Waze, Grab Taxi, Google Maps, MMDA, and Accuweather (free for the first month, and then you can continue subscription for P99 per month), 1GB Globe Cloud for easy and hassle-free storage of files and photos for 24 months, and one month of Gadget Care to allow you to protect your devices against theft and accidental damage.
On top of the base P499/month plan, you can avail of add-on services like Surf Packs for your mobile internet needs, which are bundled with exclusive access to Spotify and/or NBA League Pass. You can choose from GoSURF99 for 100MB of mobile internet monthly to as much as 15GB monthly with GoSURF2499. I got 700MB of mobile internet monthly with GoSURF299 because I only use the internet for social networking sites, email, Google, and chatting—which come in specific bundles called Lifestyle Packs.
That stairway on the right leads to Niner Ichi Nana.
For a richer data experience, myLifestyle plan customers can also choose from any of the Lifestyle Packs, which include Music (Spotify), Productivity (Work Bundle for access to Evernote, Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and Globe Cloud), Life (the aforementioned Navigation Bundle; Explore Bundle for access to Agoda, Cebu Pacific, PAL, and Trip Advisor; and Shopping Bundle for access to Amazon, AyosDito, eBay, OLX, and Zalora), and Social (Chat Bundle for access to Viber, Facebook Messenger, KakaoTalk, Line, WeChat, and WhatsApp; Photo Bundle for access to Instagram, InstaSize, Photo Grid, and Photo Repost; 1 ChatApp for access to Viber OR Facebook Messenger; and standalone access to Facebook or Twitter). From these, I chose the 1 Chat App (P99), because I’m mostly just a Viber and Facebook Messenger user; standalone Facebook access (P199); and the Photo Bundle (P299) because I’m pretty much an Instagram and photo editing addict.
You can also get extra calls and texts to other networks, as well as landline and international services with the Classic Packs. From these I chose the Unli All Net Texts at P299 and the Consumable 100.
All promo packs chosen will then be added to the P499 base plan, which will be equivalent to your monthly service fee (MSF). Then you get to choose from a wide range of free devices and gadgets, depending on your MSF. The more services you add on top of the base plan, the better the handset you can get. If the gadget you prefer is not free on your selected plan, you may have to shell out. For example, if you’re simply on the MSF 999, availing the Samsung Galaxy S6 or the LG G3 will require cash-out either via cash or credit card. It seems, however, that signing up for more bundles and availing of a higher GoSURF data allocation will give you more value for money than a cash-out!
It’s so easy to get a myLifestyle plan. Just fill out a form and present a government-issued ID. Then a Globe representative will help you pick out the Surf Packs, Lifestyle Packs, and Classic Packs you want to add to your basic plan, answer all your questions about them, and then compute the total for you.
