Essential oils keep popping up in my conversations with friends these days. Whether I’m at the yoga studio, having dinner with friends, or just chatting with them on Facebook, the benefits of essential oils somehow always manage to become one of our topics. Most of my friends swear by how it helps them fall asleep or relax when they’re anxious, while some even claim it helps with fertility. As these are some of my pressing concerns, I was immediately intrigued.

I guess I channeled the desire for essential oils very well, and a friend sent me the entire new essential oils line of Mia Maison, known for their home fragrances (which I adore!). The collection, called Essentially Mia, includes eight distinct Essential Oils, which you can now get in 12 of their over 70 stores nationwide (read on below for store info).

Having started out with fragrance oils, Mia Maison is now venturing into essential oils, harnessing the full power of aromatherapy. Not only will your homes smell great, they’ll be a lot healthier as well. Essential oils ensure that the natural healing properties of the plant remain intact and provide the fullest experience of the plants’ aroma.

The eight oils have been specifically selected because of their overall therapeutic benefits and amazing scents:

Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia), P629.75 – The Scent of Youth. Lavender essential oil is the most used oil in the world today. Fresh, floral, clean, and calm, Lavender is known to reduce anxiety and emotional stress, soothe occasional skin irritations, improve sleep, and restore skin complexion.

Recipe to reduce stress and aid in sleep:
Add lavender oil to your favorite body lotion.

Peppermint (Mentha Piperita), P544.75 – The Scent of Energy. Peppermint essential oil gives a cooling sensation and provides a sensory refreshment. It’s also known to improve mental focus, boost energy, and provide cool comfort to tight muscles.

Anti-itch recipe:
Mix 3 drops of peppermint oil with 3 drops of lavender oil to cool and soothe the itch.

Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus Radiata), P429.75 – The Scent of Balance. Eucalyptus’ oil helps stimulate immunity and provide antioxidant protection. It’s also used to help improve breathing. Mixed with Peppermint, this combo can soothe a cold fast. Eucalyptus, along with Lavender and Lemongrass, also acts as a natural repellent for common mosquitos.

Recipe for treating respiratory problems:
Mix eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil, and mineral oil, then apply to your upper chest to assist with clear breathing.

Tea Tree (Melaleuca Alternifolia), P818.75 – The Scent of Healing. Tea Tree essential oil is widely used due to its antiseptic and antimicrobial properties. It’s been used to protect against environmental and seasonal bacteria and, in some cases, help clean and rejuvenate the skin.

Recipe for treating warts:
Put tea tree oil directly on the area once or twice daily, for 30 days.

Rosemary (Rosemarinus Officinalis), P818.75 – The Scent of Memory. Rosemary has been known to help with mental expansion, clarity, and meditation. This woody, herbal scent is known to help reduce nervous tension and fatigue.

Recipe to improve memory:
Mix 3 drops of rosemary oil with 1/2tsp of mineral oil, and rub it on your upper neck.

Patchouli (Pogostemon Cablin), P454.75 – The Scent of Tranquility. Patchouli essential oil has a very rich and earthy aroma, and has a grounding and balancing effect on emotions. It’s known as an antidepressant and it can lift moods. Oil of Patchouli also acts as natural repellant to certain small insects.

Recipe to minimize scars:
Rub 2-3 drops of patchouli oil into your hands and then apply it on scar daily, until you see the mark disappear.

Grapefruit (Citrus Paradisi), Php 909.75 – The Scent of Health. Grapefruit essential oil is reportedly beneficial for improving metabolism. This energetic citrus plant also helps lift mood, and reduce mental and—to some degree—physical fatigue. This oil is cold-pressed, hence the more premium price.

Recipe for cellulite cream:
Mix 30 drops of grapefruit essential oil into 1 cup of mineral oil. Store in glass container. Rub into areas with cellulite for 5min daily.

Lemongrass (Cymbopagon Flexuosus), P609.75 – The Scent of Zen. This green, lemony, and slightly bitter-scented oil is a natural room deodorizer. Its cleansing scent washes over anxiety and can help put you in a state of relaxation. Lemongrass is also known as a natural repellant against mosquitos and fleas.

Recipe for natural bug repellant:
Add 5 drops of lemongrass oil to water and create your own spray. Spray on your pet’s coat.

Essentially Mia essential oils are versatile when it comes to bonding with various mediums and applications. A couple of drops mixed with your favorite scent-free lotion will give your daily moisturizer a lift. You can mix this with your preferred mineral oils as well if you want to use it for a relaxing massage. And of course, you can use Essentially Mia with any of Mia Maison’s varied Home Fragrance Diffusers.

What I love about essential oils is how you can mix and match them for different purposes and to create new scents—you just might discover your signature home scent! Want something daring but fresh? Try mixing Peppermint and Eucalyptus with grounding Patchouli to create a cool but creamy environment. If you’re looking for something with a bit more zing, Grapefruit, Lemongrass, and Peppermint should do the trick. The combinations are endless, and you reap all the benefits from the various oils, too! I’m so thrilled to have this in our home.

Here’s a handy guide in case you want to experiment (like I have been doing):

Burners: 1-2 drops* of oil with 4-5 drops of water
Atomizer: 2 drops* of oil for every 100ml water
Air Purifier: 10 drops* for every 1L
Lotion: 5 drops* of oil for every 250ml lotion
Direct to skin: Dilute with 4-5 drops of carrier oil per 1 drop* of essential oil

*Drops may vary from oil to oil. This is just a general guide. Essentially Mia essential oils are housed in 15ml glass bottles with droppers. Each 15ml bottle can approximately contain up to 300 drops.

NOTE: While traditionally, some essential oils can be ingested, Essentially Mia oils are NOT to be ingested under any circumstances. The purpose of the Essentially Mia line is primarily for aromatherapy use, and only secondarily for topical. If you accidentally ingest the oil, seek immediate medical attention from a toxicologist or doctor.

Essentiall Mia is currently available in select 12 Mia Maison stores: SM Megamall, SM Aura Premier, Alabang Town Center, Greenbelt 5, Glorietta 1, Eastwood Mall, Uptown Mall, UP Town Center, Century Mall, Trinoma, SM Marikina, and SM Santa Rosa.
