I’m due for a phone upgrade on my Globe myLifestyle Plan soon, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is certainly one of the units I’m considering. A quick scan of tech websites and Facebook posts on my timeline from its recent unpacking in New York gave me the low-down on features to watch for, and I thought I’d share with you the ones that are making me want it—in case you’re also thinking of getting it when it becomes available here.
Hint: It has a lot of cool features that are useful for jet-setters who want to capture amazing memories of their travels.
1. It’s a sleek, sexy hand-candy.
I always have my phone in my hand, so it has to look pretty—it’s practically a fashion accessory. I like how the Note 7 looks: It curves on both sides for an easier grip and fancier aesthetic (something I liked about the Galaxy Edge series), and it comes in three lovely colors: Black Onyx, Silver Titanium, and Gold Platinum.
2. It has powerful display and storage.
It has a 5.7-inch Quad HD (2,560 x 1440) resolution, super AMOLED display with 518 ppi, and up to 64GB worth of internal storage. It also has a microSD slot that can stretch it up to 256GB. You can store more photos and videos for easy access of your memories in the palm of your hands.
3. Hallelujah, longer battery life!
Battery life has always been one of the biggest considerations for me when getting a phone, especially since I travel a lot, use data all the time, and take a lot of photos. It’s good to know that the Note 7 has a larger battery pack with 3,500 mAh. Simply put, it can rack up to 22-25 hours of battery life even with continuous usage—you only need to charge it at most once a day.
4. It comes with the super S Pen.
The S Pen enhances your Note 7’s wonderful features. For instance, if you like making GIFs, you no longer need the GIF maker app or Photoshop, you can just use the Smart Select tool within a video to turn a portion into a GIF using your S Pen! You can also magnify a window of text using it. And when you hover over a word, it can pull a Google translation in over 70 different languages—super useful for travel junkies like me!
5. The camera is exceptional!
The Note 7 is the world’s first smartphone that can take HDR videos! It has a DSLR-like Real Pixel Camera and a dual photodiode sensor. You can shoot wonderful photos even in low-light and still achieve that #NoFilter look. This is great for capturing every single moment of your trip: day or night, outdoors or indoors, by the sea or facing the city skyline.
6. It’s not water-resistant—it’s WATER-PROOF!
And dust-proof for that matter. You can actually bring it with you to the shower or hotel tub and not worry about dropping it. You can use it to take selfies in the swimming pool or take photos and videos of fish and corals when you go snorkeling. No other phone has this fully water-proof feature. Oh, and it’s protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 that can withstand drops up to a meter high.
7. You can actually unlock your phone with your eyes.
The Note 7 has an Iris Scanner that lets you unlock your phone by looking through a form of infrared iris scanner. Yes, it authenticates your iris when logging in. This new biometric option makes me feel like I’m in some spy movie. Bond Girl, yeah?
