ILOILO CITY – I only experienced Dinagyang for the first time last year, and boy, was I amazed and proud to be married to an Ilonggo. That early on, I already knew this year’s festival promises to be even bigger, grander, and more fun, as it marks its 50th anniversary!

My husband and I were all set to participate in this year’s Dinagyang festivities, but a good friend of mine is getting married in Tacloban this weekend, and since she also attended our wedding here last month, we couldn’t miss her wedding for the world—not even for the 50th Dinagyang Festival. But if you happen to be in my new home city, hey, welcome to the party! Allow me to give you a preview of what’s in store for you.

Dinagyang Festival in Iloilo is a religious and cultural festival held on the fourth Sunday of January to honor the Santo Niño. It started in 1967 when a replica of the image of the Santo Niño was brought to the San Jose Parish in Iloilo from Cebu. Since then, the city has been hosting an annual celebration that includes a fluvial procession, street dancing, the Kasadyahan Cultural Parade, and the Dinagyang Ati Competition, which is highly entertaining and worth watching!

Tonight, January 26, Globe is co-producing Love Dance, a rockin’ party that will continue the festive spirit of the celebration. Globe, in partnership with Headrush, will bring in some of Manila’s best DJs including Mars Miranda, Carlo Atendido, Deltrastreet, and more for a night of music and dancing.

At select Globe Prepaid selling areas, customers who load at least P50 and register to GoSURF can get cool #GlobeDinagyang freebies.
