I've tried both, and I can't even decide which Frappuccino I like more: Strawberry Cheesecake or Caramel Triple Coffee Jelly.

The summer months (March to May) may be behind us, but it seems the heat is showing no signs of abating! Good thing we have two new Frappuccino flavors to try in Starbucks because iced coffee season is still upon us. While you’re at it, enjoy them with the new food items available on the menu, too. Oh, and read on for, you guessed it: a Frappuccino promo!

Forever summer Frappuccinos

It’s actually the start of summer in a lot of other countries in the world, and with the heat in Manila, forever summer naman dito! So Starbucks Philippines brings us two new Frappuccino flavors to enjoy until the end—hopefully!—of this hot, humid weather, July 27, 2015.

Strawberry Cheesecake

For those with a sweet tooth, you have to try the Strawberry Cheesecake Frappuccino (P175, Tall; P185, Grande; P195 Venti), an indulgent and delicious blended beverage made with sweet strawberry sauce, rich cheese flavor, and their cool Cream Frappuccino blend, layered with biscuit crunch, then topped with an innovative and delightful cream cheese whipped cream, berry drizzle, and even more biscuit bits.

This Frappuccino provides relief from this intense heat and humidity we have been experiencing. It’s a sweet refreshing drink and dessert in one. It has that strawberry milkshake vibe kids and kids-at-heart will love. I like the crunchy texture of the biscuit crumbs and the authentic strawberry flavor and sweetness of the syrup. I usually don’t like whipped cream on my Frappuccino, but I had to try the cream cheese-flavored whipped cream on this drink, which is creamier, tastier, and richer than the usual. It tastes exactly like that thick cream cheese white part of your cheesecake. May point to keep the whipped cream on my drink (I usually refuse the whipped cream because I find it a pointless source of fat, haha, sorry whipped cream lovers!).

This drink is definitely sinfully sweet, but surprisingly not overwhelming or nakakumay. It actually quenches your thirst, if you know what I mean (well, if you don’t, I mean there are a lot of overly sweet drinks out there that make you even more thirsty). I definitely drained this drink right down to the last bit of biscuit with whipped cream and syrup!

If you crave a strong dose of caffeine, you have to try the Caramel Triple Coffee Jelly Frappuccino (P175, Tall; P185, Grande; P195 Venti). This handcrafted Triple Coffee Blended Beverage combines layers of sweet dark roast coffee jelly, cool blended coffee Frappuccino, and caramel syrup, topped with espresso whipped cream, finely ground coffee sprinkles, and caramel drizzle.

The moment I saw this on the Starbucks menu, I knew I had to try it because Caramel is my go-to Frappuccino flavor. I needed to know what made this one so special. And at first sip, I knew: This Frappuccino is richer and has a bolder coffee taste, which made me fall in love with it instantly. I don’t know how I’m going to go back to my usual Caramel Frappuccino; I’m now spoiled by this drink! The coffee jelly gives each sip a delightful texture, but I would drink this Frappuccino with or without it, actually. Again, I also didn’t decline the espresso-flavored whipped cream, which had the bold and bitter taste that I love—truly an experience worth the extra calories for coffee lovers like me. You need not worry if you’re not a fan of bitter flavors because it’s almost immediately tamed by the caramel syrup. Gising ka talaga sa Frappuccino na ‘to!

Remember the Starbucks VIA Sweetened Iced Coffee I told you about last time here? Starbucks now has an Iced Coffee Blend for its Whole Bean Coffee (P495), too! It’s a medium roast, well-balanced, and caramelly smooth combination of Africa and Latin America coffees, carefully selected, blended, and roasted. This blend was designed with the perfect glass of iced brewed coffee in mind and is specifically roasted to accentuate a full-flavored taste when chilled.

New food items to try now until July 27

I wanted to pair my Frappuccino with something savory, so I immediately chose the Hawaiian BBQ Sausage Wrap (P165) from the display of new food items now available in Starbucks. Soft tortilla is filled with grilled sliced sausages, onions, and pineapple covered in Hawaiian BBQ sauce, which is best served warm.

I always watch for the wraps Starbucks releases, and I particularly like those with a barbecue flavor. I loved last season’s Chicken Cheese Steak Wrap which had a smoky BBQ sauce as well as the Chicken BBQ Wrap before that, so I was delighted to find out they released a Hawaiian BBQ Sausage version this season. They actually had me at ‘Hawaiian BBQ’ because I was sure it will have the sweet-sour flavor I’m always drawn to, and this did not disappoint.

The sausage was satisfyingly salty and spicy at the same time. But besides the bold sausage flavor that dominated every mouthful, the wrap generally had a light taste, giving off just a slight heat at the back of your palate. There’s added sweetness from the pineapple bits and onions. Speaking of which, I must warn you, there are big slices of onions. Plenty. So if you’re not a fan (and I know people who hate onions), be careful to take them out before you bite.

It’s light as a meal, but satisfying as a snack. If you’re not a big eater, this will fill you up, especially if you’re trying one of their two new very rich Frappucinos. I tried the Strawberry Cheesecake Frappuccino with it, and the drink was great for taking away the meaty aftertaste of the sausage, cleansing your palate of the zing of onions, and soothing the heat on your palate.
