I love the V-Day design, so cute! Photos and details--plus my review of both drinks and promos here.

I’ve gone through phases of favorite drinks in Starbucks. For the longest time, it was hot Caramel Macchiato (and it still is one of my favorites). Then, I learned it’s yummy over ice, so it became Iced Caramel Macchiato. It alternates with Caramel Frappuccino, no whipped, on particularly warm days. And then I had a brewed coffee phase, black with two packs of brown sugar. The latest was Mocha Frappuccino or Iced Mocha with Raspberry Syrup add-on. On days when I’m feeling particularly indulgent, I treat myself to a Dark Mocha Frappuccino with Raspberry Syrup add-on. (I’m told that’s the recipe for Black Forest. Yum.)

So I had to chuckle (after doing a silent squeal of delight inside) when I found out that one of Starbucks Coffee’s featured drinks for the season of love is Raspberry Truffle Mocha. I’m like, “Now everybody will love my favorite drink!” I was curious, of course, because now there’s the element of truffle to my usual Raspberry Mocha drink. Basically it’s their signature mocha drink with raspberry syrup, but what makes this version different and special is the topping: raspberry whipped cream drizzled with espresso truffle sauce!

I tried Raspberry Truffle Mocha in different forms: hot, iced, and Frappuccino, and my favorite has got to be iced because it really brought out all the flavors: the raspberry syrup AND whipped cream (I can’t believe it took me over five different orders of this drink, declining the whipped cream, before it hit me that I shouldn’t because the whipped cream is actually raspberry flavored—and it’s delicious!); the mocha; and the luxurious espresso truffle sauce.

The hot version is the sweetest and richest of all, while the ice blended is the most refreshing and and is not as sweet as the hot and over iced versions, but all have the same great flavors that I love. When you order this drink, make sure you don’t skip the whipped, k?

Of course, I also had to try the Chestnut Praline Latte (since I always try all of Starbucks Coffee’s new drinks), and I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it just as much as the Raspberry Truffle Mocha. It combines their signature espresso with the flavor of roasted chestnuts and freshly steamed milk. If you like their Toffee Nut Latte Christmas drink, then you’ll enjoy this, too. It’s sweet and nutty, but both flavors are balanced, and you don’t get overwhelmed with sweetness. Since it’s ordinary whipped cream on top, I skipped it, and this allowed me to enjoy more and really taste the sweet, crunchy praline sprinkles and roasted chestnut flavored syrup on top.

For this one, I like the hot, iced, and Frappucino versions equally, and find that the flavors remain balanced and pronounced whichever variant you order.

Starbucks Confections

Together, the Raspberry Truffle Mocha and Chestnut Praline Latte make up the Starbucks Espresso Confections—decadent beverages inspired by candy confections found in a box of fine chocolates, especially for the Valentine season. Try them while they’re still available, now until February 23, 2015.

(Prices: P140 for Short, P150 for Tall, P165 for Grande, and P175 for Venti Hot or Iced beverages. P155 for Tall, P165 for Grande, and P175 for Venti Frappucino variants.)

I was particularly excited to try all these drinks while using my two new Starbucks cards! I collect all designs made available in the Philippines, so I was happy to get the two latest limited edition ones: one specifically for the Lunar New Year, the Year of the Sheep; and the other one for Valentine’s Day, with its super cute and colorful hearts design!
