Even as we approach the final weeks of summer, there’s no reason to get too lax about our workout and let go of our bodies. It’s best to maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle all year round, whether or not we have a specific reason to do so. As for me, I have two big ones: In preparation for my prenup shoot in a few weeks and my wedding at the end of the year, I’m pulling out all the stops to get in shape and back to my desired size. I couple my strict diet with hot yoga classes at least three times a week.
Yet even if I’m a yoga girl, I wouldn’t say no to trying other forms of exercise. So when Uniqlo invited me along with other media guests to join a spinning class at Saddle Row, I was game of course! Uniqlo wanted us to experience the benefits of wearing the latest functional and stylish pieces from Uniqlo Sport during a gruelling workout.
I’m glad my Uniqlo Sport outfit was comfortable and allowed me to move freely, as the spinning class required us to pump our legs as fast as we can as we try to match the instructor’s recommended speed and resistance on the stationary bicycle. We also had to pair cycling with a variety of aerobic moves while following the beat of the music playing at the time and trying to remain off our saddles (bike seats). It was a resistance class, so we used resistance belts at one point to tone our arms, and even did a number of crunches to tone our core. The 45-minute class ended with some yoga stretches on and off our saddle. It was an intense workout, and I felt it on my legs for days!
It’s great that Uniqlo Sport is known for incorporating sportswear features into everyday apparel, so you can pretty much wear your workout clothes even outside the gym. For Spring/Summer 2017, the collection has been expanded to cover a wider range of sports that help enhance athletic performance for both athletes and regular individuals. It provides a chic and innovative approach to athletic apparel.
The new women’s collection includes the AIRism Relaxed Crew Neck, which I wore during the spinning class (see photo above). The casual activewear piece is made with AIRism material that every woman can wear in the gym or out on the streets, as it’s packed with comfort features including Dry and Cool Touch technology that leaves you feeling cool no matter your workout. It has a relaxed, loose-fitting cut that works with a number of body types. I wore it over a black bra top and dark gray leggings, both from Uniqlo Sport, and even if I was sweating buckets during class, it kept me cool and relatively dry, even as I mingled a bit before strolling through crowded Serendra on my way home.
The new collection for women also includes the AIRism UV Cut Mesh Full Zip Hoodie, which features UV-protection that blocks 90% of UV rays and minimizes the chances of sunburn and skin damage, with moisture-wicking and anti-microbial properties that ensure you feel cool and comfortable while working up a sweat whether in the gym or under the sun; and DRY-EX Ultra Stretch Short Pants, made using DRY-EX technology that’s designed for women with active lifestyles. It’s great for workouts or everyday wear with its quick-drying features and amazing stretch that lets you work out without worrying about movement and staying fresh. Available in an assortment of colors, the shorts are great to layer over leggings or tights.

There’s a version of the shirt for men, the DRY-EX Crew Neck T-Shirt, which is part of the new men’s collection that the male members of the media wore during our Saddle Row class. Designed with a classic cut and a number or colors to choose from, it doubles as workout and casual apparel. It’s best worn during warmer seasons, as this piece instantly absorbs sweat, leaving guys feeling dry and comfortable. Its stretch fabric also lets men move with ease.
The new men’s collection also includes the DRY-EX Short Pants, ideal for the summer season when it gets extra hot in the gym or on the courts, as it’s equipped with an improved quick-dry capability that keeps men cool throughout their workout, with mesh fabric that provides added breathability; as well as the DRY-EX Full-Zip Hoodie, meant for leisure or sports activities, as it’s equipped with DRY-EX technology, letting men maintain a cling-free, comfortable feel throughout their workout, be it high or low intensity. Added features include underarm panels and sleeves designed for increased arm mobility.
