If you love fashion—and are smart enough to get a head start on your holiday shopping while getting ideas for your wardrobe update—then make sure to hang out at Bonifacio Global City from September 7-9, 2018 because StylefestPH is really happening, you guys! (Really wishing I’ll be in Manila for this, but sadly, I’m stuck in Iloilo.)

Stylefest Main

Remember my post for people who want to have a chance to make it big as a fashion designer by getting the chance to be mentored by industry experts? Well, the finalists were selected and mentored, and now they’re ready to present their collections in a grand fashion show! How cool is that?

StylefestPH kicked off with the Designer Mentorship Program, where eight aspiring designers were mentored by some of the country’s notable names in fashion and beauty, also known as the “Stylecouncil.” This includes fashion designer Inno Sotto, fashion stylist Pam Quiñones, Zalora Philippines co-founder and CEO Paulo Campos, professional make-up artist Jigs Mayuga, fashion and lifestyle editor Sarah Santiago, Globe Lifestyle head Leah de Guzman, and Fashion Exchange International co-founder Carmina Sanchez-Jacob.

The 3-day event this weekend is the culmination of the Design Mentorship Program, featuring the capsule collection of the five winners named “Emerging Designers” and the three winners dubbed as the “Future of Design.” The winners will have their collections sold at ZALORA Philippines and 0917 Lifestyle, respectively, and will also receive a cash prize.

StylefestPH will also feature a fashion and beauty expo as well as talks from various industry leaders. The expo, called StyleSpace, will be at Globe Iconic in Bonifacio High Street Ampitheater, while programs like Styletalks and Stylespotting (fashion shows) will be held at the Grand Hyatt. Admission to StyleSpace on September 7-9 is free! Here you can check out weekend sellers, as well as local & international brands and manufacturers.

Note that the events at Grand Hyatt are by invitation only, although tickets to the Styletalks are also for sale. These talks are perfect for fashion industry professionals and retail junkies, as well as fashion students and enthusiasts to gain more insights for their business and/or passion for fashion. Styletalks will give you access to inspirational keynotes, insightful panels, creative thinkers, and some of the best in emerging technologies in the region.

September 7’s talk on “Transforming Fashion in the Age of Technology,” for instance, is about the future of fashion and tech retail from a global perspective. Keynote speaker Amanda Cosco of Electric Runway will touch on how digitization and the internet of things are rapidly transforming every aspect of the industry, from how we buy and sell apparel to the increasing presence of AI (artificial intelligence) in the design process. Amanda will draw from various research reports as well as from her first-hand experience traveling the world as a fashion-tech researcher, reporter, and international speaker. Her topics include virtual reality, augmented retail, automation and the future of manufacturing, wearable technology and smart fabrics, biotechnology and next-generation textiles, and how the smartphone has changed fashion.

Meanwhile, the talks on September 8 will feature the makers and shakers of the fashion and beauty industry who will share what it’s like from the inside out. The keynote speakers include accessory designer and SoFA Design Institute co-founder Amina Aranaz-Alunan, the mother-and-daughter tandem of Jenni and Aryanna Epperson who are behind skincare company Always Sunday, Zalora’s Paulo Campos, makeup artist and fashion blogger Ana Victorino, and 2014 Vogue Talents for Accessory and designer Ken Samudio.

StyefestPH is a partnership between Globe Telecom and SAGA Events, Inc., with the goal to create a new platform for the local fashion industry—the next frontier for the telco. “We hope to generate business opportunities for designers and allow them to showcase their creative and entrepreneurial project to both the local and international markets and let their passions grow in the digital space,” shares Globe Senior Advisor for Creative Marketing and Multimedia Business Joe Caliro.
