Do you love Japanese design and aesthetic? Think clean and crisp, traditional yet also contemporary. If you do, you should grab yourself one of these beautifully crafted shirts.

Bobson Japan has teamed up with one of Japan’s top fashion schools for the BOBSON x Marronnier T-shirt Graphic Design Contest. The denim brand tapped into the talents of Osaka-based Marronnier College of Fashion and Design, established in 1949 and which has a long history and heritage of nurturing some of the most talented young creatives in Japan, to create new shirt designs that capture the essence of Japanese culture and aesthetic.

A total of 67 entries were submitted by Marronnier’s top design students, with each contestant having two entries: one shirt design for men and another for women. The contestants all produced their creative interpretation of the theme “Perfect Circle: Rising Sun,” while they were judged based on a set of criteria by Bobson brand director Chris Magnaye and two of the Philippines’ top bloggers and style icons, Laureen Uy and Tricia Gosingtian. An online voting component through Facebook likes was also included.

Tricia Gosingtian and Laureen Uy flank Akane Yasutake and her winning designs for Male and Female shirts that will be sold in Bobson stores here in the Philippines.

After the selection process, 20-year-old Akane Yasutake was proclaimed winner for both the male and female shirt design categories. Her work featured a samurai and geisha executed with delicate yet elaborate lines, which also came with exquisitely drawn Japanese characters. The result was a minimalist look that still evoked the intricacy and elegance of the Japanese aesthetic.

Yasutake said in a statement, “This contest has given me a wonderful opportunity to showcase Japanese culture through my design ideas. In turn, I hope that through my work, Filipinos will know more about Japan and our culture. I hope many Filipinos will appreciate my design and this will build…a better relationship between our two countries.”

Yasutake’s designs are produced and now sold exclusively here in the Philippines. They’re great to pair with jeans! Click here for five ways to style your jeans.
